MemriTree is for anyone who has memories or stories they want to preserve and share.
People use MemriTree to create:
- Stories from their own lives
- Family histories, including stories based on genealogical research
- Illustrated stories based on a loved one’s obituary
- Memories from raising children
- Stories inspired by letters, journals, military records, and other family documents
When you tell your story aloud, we transcribe your recording and use AI to lightly edit it into a polished narrative. We improve things like grammar, organization, and paragraph breaks, but we do not intentionally embellish your story or add information you did not provide. Think of MemriTree more like an editor than a co-author.
We also use AI to create watercolor-style illustrations inspired by the details in your story.
We work hard to get everything right, but every part of the finished story is editable. You can change or delete text, and you can regenerate, edit, add, or remove illustrations.

You do not need to remember everything or tell the story perfectly. Start with what you know, and you can always edit or add to the story later.
Once you submit your story by speaking or typing, it typically takes about two to five minutes to generate.
When it is ready, the story will appear on your homepage, where you can review, edit, and share it.
The first time you create a story, we’ll also ask a few questions about your appearance, such as your hair color and skin tone. This one-time step helps us create illustrations that look more like you and usually takes only a few minutes.
That depends on how you submit your story.
Spoken stories are automatically polished because natural speech often includes pauses, repetition, and words such as “um” and “uh.” We clean those up while staying true to what you told us.
When you paste in written text, you can choose:
Preserve: Keep your writing as close to the original as possible.
Polish: Apply the same kind of light editing we use for spoken stories.
Once your story is created, you can edit any part of it yourself.
MemriTree currently keeps the perspective used in your original story.
For example, a story submitted in first person will remain in first person, while a story submitted in third person will remain in third person. We do not currently offer an automatic option to switch between the two.

MemriTree uses AI image-generation technology from OpenAI to create watercolor-style illustrations based on the people, places, events, and details in your story.
You have several options:
- Regenerate it. This creates a new version based on the same part of your story.
- Edit it. Describe a specific change, such as adjusting someone’s hair color, clothing, or surroundings.
- Delete it. You can remove an illustration you do not want to use.
- Replace it with a photo. You can upload your own family photos and place them within the story.
Yes. After your story has been created, you can upload your own photos and place them between paragraphs.
If an illustration appears where you would prefer to use a photo, simply delete the illustration and add your photo in its place.
We try to make the illustrations as close as possible to the details you provide, but they will not be perfectly exact.
In a way, they are a little like memory itself: recognizable and meaningful, but sometimes slightly fuzzy around the edges. That is one reason we chose a watercolor style. It feels more like an artistic representation of a memory than a documentary photograph.

Public: The story may be discovered by search engines and viewed by anyone. Choose this only for stories you are comfortable sharing broadly.

Subscription credits: Refresh each month when your subscription renews. Unused subscription credits do not roll over to the next month.
